Morrisons Launches One Million Pound Community Fund

The Morrisons Foundation has launched a new £1 million fund, called Connecting Communities, to help local charities improve and upgrade shared spaces in their communities. Grants of up to £20,000 are available for charities that need financial support to improve their physical spaces. David Scott, chair of the Morrisons Foundation, said that thriving communities are built on the strength of their shared spaces but funding to sustain them is in short supply.

The £1 million fund is intended to be used to buy new equipment, carry out essential maintenance, or refurbishment. Charities running spaces and activities that bring people together, such as village halls, youth clubs, and community centres, are encouraged to apply for a share of the fund. This also includes organisations providing place-based support, including warm hubs for the elderly, school PTAs, and hospices.

Joseph Clark-Bland, Morrisons charity and community manager, added that the new Connecting Communities fund is designed to unlock the potential of local neighbourhood facilities. He said that many charities providing vital services in communities are struggling, and the foundation wants to help ensure they remain open and accessible.

The Morrisons Foundation is active in several areas, including a recent partnership with Kick It Out and Gift of Kit to help more girls play football in West Yorkshire. The programme will provide 30 teams with a brand-new match kit package for the 2026/27 season. Since launching in 2015, the Morrisons Foundation has donated almost £50 million through community grants and matched the fundraising of Morrisons colleagues, supporting thousands of charities across England, Scotland, and Wales.

Other organisations have also launched initiatives to improve shared spaces. Some charities have focused on providing essential services, such as food banks and mental health support, to vulnerable populations.
